Running an events company is hectic at the best of times, but throw in a global pandemic and it’d be an understatement to say it certainly made things interesting!
We know that there have been many struggles for people this year. Loved ones have been separated and special occasions like weddings have been cancelled, so we count our blessings that we have been able to host events at all this year. That’s why we don’t just want to focus on the negatives, we also want to look at some of the positives.
And so, here are our pros and cons list of running an events company during COVID-19.
Restrictions - the big one for running events. We’ve kept up-to-date with all of the latest guidance to make our events COVID-safe but restrictions on social gatherings have been a huge challenge and undoubtedly has changed the way we thought our events would run.
Operations - how do you bring people together during a time like this? Our main aim with running events is to get people in the same place to create memories, but the operational side of this has been a huge battle. For many, they have taken the digital approach but we much prefer face-to-face interaction!
Losing manpower - whether it has been people, unfortunately, finding themselves out of work or personal circumstances meaning they can’t work during this time, we have lost contacts and connections that would have otherwise highly contributed to our events.
Cancellation and postponement - this year has shown us that things change in an instant and with that has come cancellations, postponements and severe delays with our events!
But it’s not all doom and gloom! Here some of the positives we’ve been able to take away.
Adapt to work remotely - with the loss of physical office space and local staff, we’ve adapted to working remotely. And with that has brought together a brilliant team which spans across the world! Our global staff regularly meets on Zoom calls with the hopes that one day we can all meet in person.
Plan and budget money better - we’ve found that through all of the restrictions on what we can’t spend money on, we’ve been able to focus our budget a lot better. We’ve discovered we don’t need to overspend, and instead, we’ve put our efforts into what is going to make the events really special to get the same experience.
Seeking new venues - one of the biggest things we’ve had to ensure is that our venues can adhere to all of the COVID-safe procedures. This has allowed us to be more choosy and find stunning venues that offer an incredible experience whilst still adhering to the guidelines.
Importance of being with friends and family - now more than ever we’ve realised the importance of being with our friends and family. This was always our aim with our events, and it has given us even more pride in our work, knowing that we can bring people together during these difficult times.
In response to COVID-19, many people began working from home for the first time in their career. We know this change can be a big shock for people who are used
