The pressure that comes with event planning seems to magnify tenfold when it comes to New Year’s Eve events. There’s always an expectation that it has to be the best party you’ve ever been to but frankly, forced fun is not what we’re about.
At Be More Than, we’re adamant that you can pre-plan a party but the having fun part should never be forceful. Instead, we like to keep it natural and add value to an event with memorable moments - ones that are born from interesting, bold ideas and ones that guests remember for all the right reasons.
With many looking forward to seeing the back of 2020, we’ve put together a handy guide to help you tick off not just the essentials of a New Year’s Eve event, but opportunities to add a little extra something to your party. This is your chance to add that fun element rather than forcing it on your guests. Let’s take a look!
This is a New Year’s event after all so give your guests a little reminder as soon as they walk in.
Resolutions are usually the main talking point of NYE so consider having something like a ‘resolution area’ where people can write their goals for 2021 for everyone to see and get into the New Year’s spirit straight away.
You might want to plan a sit-down meal but with our experience, we’ve found that light bites on platters and finger food works best for a New Year party. It keeps it less formal and more about the celebration.
Drinks throughout the night are a no-brainer, as is having a glass of bubbles ready for when the clock strikes 12 but that doesn’t have to be the end of your consideration for drinks. Think about small touches and decorations to make your beverages sparkle and so they’re a little different from the average cocktail night. And don’t forget to provide some non-alcoholic drinks too!
Everyone’s here for one thing - the countdown to midnight so make sure you’re not relying on people checking their phones. Put a clock in a central location or even better, have a screen nearby so that everyone can see when it’s nearly time.
Hand out something to your guests just before the countdown such as party poppers, confetti or if you’re outside, sparklers to make those first moments of 2021 extra special.
You want your guests to remember your event for years to come and one of the best ways to jog people’s memories is by having photographs to look back on.
Hire a photographer or designate someone to be in charge of a camera to make sure a moment is never missed. You can also encourage your guests to take photos by providing some Instagrammable backdrops and photo booths - you could even have your own hashtag!
